A batch of serving trays - two in oak, two in ash

Over the past couple of days I have been working on fulfilling Etsy web orders from customers around the country. The order consists of two serving trays made in locally sourced ash and ripple ash, due to be shipped out to a customer in Edinburgh; followed by a pair of extra large serving trays with cut through handles made in locally sourced oak and oak cluster, for a customer in Beaconsfield. Both sets are finished in a wax oil that brings out the beautiful wood grain and is also resistant to hot and cold drink spills.

For this project I thought I’d capture a few work in progress photos, documenting part of the making process and a glimpse behind the scenes in the made by minnow studio. Once the trays have been glued up, they are all sanded to 220 grit before receiving two coats of oil, then wooden dowels are set into the underside, all around the glue line for additional strength. Once totally finished, a felt pad is cut to size and glued onto the underside, to prevent unwanted scratches to work surfaces and also provides a non-slip surface.

These really useful trays can be made to order in bespoke sizes to suit your individual requirements. Just send us a message with the size you are looking for and any other requirements that you have, and we will respond to you with a quote. Thanks.
