Custom low back chair

A client reached out a couple of weeks ago and wanted to visit the studio showroom to commission a chair. We had constructive conversations about the various chair designs on display and together we were able to select various elements from several different chairs and combine them to create a custom design that suited her needs.

Here I have widened the arm bow and adapted the pattern of the four stick chair, while incorporating the sculpted back of the captain’s chair. I made modifications to the templates and allowed an extra 1” either side of where the elbows sit, this is to allow her to knit without feeling restricted. I also widened and made the seat deeper, so as to look in proportion to the arm. Next week I’ll be working on the seat, legs and building up the curved backrest that will be applied to the arm bow after drilling the spindles.
